Results & Match Reports

This week:

This week (proving that we're always better for a metaphor):

  • After a shaky first half Fifth Finger duly opened their digits and stuffed the Brains

  • Snoopy's brought home the bacon against the Pigs at St Caths

  • The History Men knocked Albert off his plinth at the Red

  • Following humiliation in the first half Ethel pulled up her drawers after the beer break and flashed past Stumped to win an easy victory

  • X-Pats travelled well on their visit to the Albert Club notching up their first win this season - and the night's highest score - against the luckless Park

Quiz Paper Verdict

Opsimaths set the paper this time.  Favourite moment at the Griffin was when the tongue-tied QM asked who succeeded Moses as leader of the Conservative party.  As co-conspirator in setting the paper this week I can own up to the fact that the 'November 5th' linked questions were a  bit of a damp squib (now there's a link I didn't think of).  Aggregate scores ranged from 67 to 74 with an average (highest yet this season) of 69.6.  You might have noticed that on the 'Fixtures' page, as well as showing the actual scores of each match, I have shown the average aggregate match score on the week in question.  I can think of no better way to give an objective view of the relative difficulty of each week's paper.  Of course there are other criteria with which a paper can be judged but these defy calculation.

The Question of the Week

I asked the combined wits of the Brains and Fifth Finger to nominate this week's Question of the Week.  They came up with (Round 2 Q8):

Which word links the film Reds, Coronation Street and an infamous atrocity in the history of the N. Ireland troubles?
