Fifth Finger duly completed the double with a resounding victory over FCEK in this season's cup final at the Griffin. The Barry-Martin-Michael-Kieran knowledge machine went into a convincing lead in Round 1 and never showed any signs of flagging thereafter, running out 42 to 27 winners. As ever at the Griffin, the game was full of fun and good manners with plenty of chat to enrich the event. Ivor and a number of History Men turned up to cheer on the combatants (and ensure that the QM didn't cock up any of their questions). I was accorded the honour of QMing. One last Wednesday fixture remains this season...... The Grand End-of-Season Presentation evening will be held next Wednesday May 11th at the Albert Club. Kick off at about 8.15pm. The evening's quiz has been set by Gerry Hennessy. See you there!!! |
Quiz Paper Verdict |
For the Cup Final - and therefore enjoying the (perverse) honour of having their paper played exclusively in just one match - the setters were the History Men. As expected they kept the season's high standards for question papers going right up to the wire. There was much excellent knowledge-fodder to chew on. With the General Election today it was perhaps forgivable (even by Roz) to have a good many political questions - with a particular focus on ministers who died in office!! The paper also featured, what was to me (but I suspect not to the History Men), the toughest theme of the year so far (Round 7). See if you can get it - neither of the finalists could. |
The Question of the Week |
The award this Cup Final week goes to Round 8 Question 5: Which politician said: "We are all worms, but I do believe I am a glow-worm"? Click here to see the answers to this and the rest of the week's questions and answers. |
