Quiz Paper Verdict

Electric Pigs set for this first week of 2007's Val Draper Cup Competition - and by so doing get themselves a bye into next week's heats.

No problems on the whole.   A reasonable set of aggregate scores ranging from a pretty high 82 (Girls v Ethel) to a run of the mill 62 (X-Pats v Albert Park).  The first 2/3 rounds seemed distinctly tough to me but then it eased off.  Full marks for balance since - the Girls apart - the games were all nip and tuck, and plaudits for interesting questions on a wide range of subjects.  At this stage I would normally say something nice about Gerry Hennessy but I now know that most Pigs' papers are the result of a combined porcine effort fashioned at the White Hart in Cheadle the previous Sunday evening.  I did detect a variety of standards and styles at play in this week's paper so I am pretty sure that there were a few hands at work.  And a big pat on the back for the picture round.  Excellent.  Just the right level of 'tip-of-the-tongueness'.

The Question of the Week

Ethel and the Girls voted this week for Round 6 Question 7:

What were invented by Adolf Fick in 1887 and, whilst being to all intents and purposes invisible, are now used worldwide by an estimated 125 million people?

Chatterbox

I have only had 2 bits of feedback on the idea advanced in last week's Quiz Biz for a pre-season friendly inter-league match with the cream of Stockport.  Before I reply to the neighbouring league could a few others please register comments on the message-board?  Thanks.

(Update - Thursday evening:  A few more positive comments on the message-board about the Stockport inter-league match idea.  I'll reply in encouraging tones.  Thanks)
