Stockport Quiz League 78 - WithQuiz 67

The inaugural Stockport/WithQuiz inter-league match was played last Wednesday at Heaton Moor RUFC (great beer!).  There were quite a few supporters from both leagues cheering the contestants on.  We played 6-a-side with half time subs allowed.  WithQuiz were represented by:

  • David & Ivor (History Men)

  • Guy (Electric Pigs)

  • Damian (2 FCEKs)

  • Mark (Albert Park)

  • myself (Opsimaths)

Clive and Dave (Albert Park) and Gary (Electric Pigs) subbed for Guy, David and Mark at half time.

The mixture of formats provided an interesting challenge with our own slightly simpler structure coming off better by comparison (I would say this wouldn't I?).  The edge was probably given by the excellent standard of the WithQuiz-style paper set by Fr M.  Take a look for yourselves - the question paper is published here.  Fr M certainly provided QotW with Round 2 Q12!!

Having said I preferred our own format I must be fair and add that the Stockport League were ahead on both styles - so we lost fairly and squarely.

The Stockport League had very generously acquired a magnificent cup (The WIST Trophy) which I duly awarded to Mike Wagstaffe, the Stockport captain.

All in all an enjoyable venture and I, for one, look forward to the return match at the start of next season (at The Albert Club maybe?) as well as the planned Champions League clashes between the top 4 2006/7 teams from each League to be fought out at Christmas, Easter and the end of the coming season.

Thanks to Stockport for hosting and, indeed, coming up with the idea in the first place.   Thanks, too, to John Dennison who very capably undertook our share of the QMing duties.
