Chunky beat the Girls to take the inaugural WIST Champions crown

The Results

Congratulations to Chunky who garnished their recent dominance of the Stockport Quiz League with a clear victory over WithQuiz's perennial top team, the Napier Girls, in the final of the inaugural WIST Champion's Cup.  The contest at Heaton Moor Rugby Club was closer than the score (67-59) suggests with the Girls matching Chunky blow for blow in each round but the first.  Unfortunately the nine point deficit the Girls ran up in Round 1, when they seemed to shoulder the bulk of the unanswerable questions, could not be overturned

The Paper

Mike Wagstaffe from the Stockport League set the paper this week.  Stockport aficionados rated this a tough paper by their usual standards.  My own view was that it had a 'Charabancs tang'.  Plenty of interesting material with enough information in most questions to work out a plausible guess if you didn't know the answer.  Despite the Stockport format Mike had done a lot to make the Girls feel at home - both written rounds were Picture rounds (a relatively rare occurrence in Stockport papers) and the first of these had an embedded theme.

The Question of the Week

This week the vote goes to Round 4 Question 4:

What is the common name of this chemical compound?

End of Season

Next Wednesday (8.15 at the Albert Club) is the End of Season Presentation evening.  Plenty of quizzing and one or two surprises - and if you can make it to the club for 6.30 that evening, Andrew and Gary (from the Pigs) will be helping out with Bowling lessons on the Club's famous green.
