End of Season

A great time was had by one and all as WithQuiz collectively buried the 2007/08 season last night at the Albert Club.

The Napier Girls collected the League trophy, the Electric Pigs collected the Val Draper Cup and the Opsimaths (at last) got onto the scoresheet by picking up the Plate, their first trophy after a mere 29 years of quizzing.  John Mellor from Ethel Rodin (one of our longest serving quizzers) did the honours and awarded the trophies.

Highlight of the presentations, however, was a heartfelt tribute to Gerry Hennessy from Dave Rainford.  Gerry, who was in at the start of the Withington Quiz League, has just had his 60th.  He received a fine glass trophy from Dave inscribed:

“To Gerry Hennessy KWE (Knight Commander of the Withington Empire) commemorating his 60th birthday and acknowledging his immense contribution to quizzing in South Manchester and profits in the Red Lion – The Withington Quiz League May 2008”

An award also to Ethel Rodin for setting the Question of the Season.  The top Questions of the Season (selected by ballot on the night) were:

The evening's quiz itself was a close fought competition with The Getaways (Albert Park's new name) and the Napier Girls sharing top spot just one point ahead of the Charabancs of Fire.  After a tiebreaker the Girls came out on top and duly collected the evening's wine.

For those of a less nervous disposition this link will take you to some photos of the celebrations.

So that's it for now.  The website will take its traditional summer break and be back with you late September/early October.
