Stockport romp to a convincing victory in the Pre-season Friendly

The Results

Sadly WithQuiz got trounced fair and square by the might of the brains from Stockport.  Debates about getting the rough end of the draw faded away by half time when our lads were a mere 20 points adrift.  A mass substitution managed to stem the flow in the second half but did nothing to reverse our fortunes.  Stockport ran out winners 64 to 45 and duly retained the WIST Trophy.

Well done to them and roll on the WIST Champions League between the top 4 teams from each league in December.

The Paper

The first half of the paper was prepared by myself (Mike Bath) à la Withquiz.  There were 2 rounds of paired questions, a themed round (fishes in the answers) and a picture round (Google Earth pictures of Greater Manchester landmarks to identify).  On the whole a tough but fair mix.  I regret not putting the pictures up on the big screen at the Club (through my computer) as this would have made it easier for the teams to see, and given the considerable number of spectators an opportunity to participate - albeit silently.

The second half was set by Mike Wagstaffe from the Stockport League consisting of a verbal round of 30 conferred questions and a written round of 10 questions offered to both teams.  The Stockport-style second half was perhaps even tougher than the first half - but no complaints from either side.

The Question of the Week

This week the award goes to Round 4 Q2;

After Cumbria, Northumberland, Durham and North Yorkshire which English county contains the highest point?

Chatterbox

Just a quick reminder that the WithQuiz season kicks off on October 8th with a paper set by the Getaways (Albert Park's new name).  Full details of fixtures are now on this site.

And you may have noticed a quite dramatic change to the style, layout and colour scheme of the site (though not to the overall structure).  Please let me know what you think.  Suggestions for improvements are always welcome and can usually be implemented.
