As the league season comes to an end.....Ethel's narrow defeat means 4th place goes to the

Charas - the Pigs leap up to mid table respectability

Results & Match Reports

SPW have had to scratch and concede victory to the Charabancs of Fire.  For the second time in 3 weeks (indeed for both of Gerry Hennessy's papers) a combination of holidays and football have interrupted our champions progress.

Albert lost at home to the Opsimaths who thus brought their most successful league season of all time to a close.  A rousing finale, good cheer and plenty of laughter at the Fletcher Moss.

Prodigals found the Bards of Didsbury too hot to handle and so lost the chance to leapfrog them in the table's basement battle.

Ethel Rodin just failed at home against History Men.  Ivor's on holiday so Peter writes in:

"The Historymen just sneaked a narrow victory at the Stadium of Murk.  We leapt into a 2 point lead in round 1 and were behind from then on until Ethel fell at the final hurdle."

TMTCH ended their second - and best - WithQuiz league season with a home defeat at the hands of the ever improving Electric Pigs.

Quiz Paper Verdict

This week the paper was set for the second time in 3 weeks by Gerry Hennessy (a.k.a. Dummy).

Another cracker from Gerry to end our league season.  Although the aggregate score was a little lower than Dummy's offering a fortnight ago I think I preferred this paper.  It was a tasty mixture of themes and pairs with loads to chat about.  At the Fletcher Moss the Opsimaths' favourite round was Round 4 with its academic theme.  We were fortunate on the night to have with us Opsimath Colin Mackenzie who was himself Oxbridge educated and so had no difficulty in identifying the answer to Question 5.  Father Megson would have been proud of you Colin (not to mention his housekeeper, Roisin).  Once again the WithQuiz site is pleased to offer valuable prizes to anyone who can improve on......

Round 4's theme was scrupulously fair,

So when asked "Shannon Town is where?",

Colin's intimate knowledge,

Of each Oxbridge college,

Led him straight to the answer Limerick.

The Question of the Week

This week the Electric Pigs vote for Round 7 Question 4:

Which chain of restaurants derived its name from a friend of Popeye?

Chatterbox

The league season is now at an end.  Next week we enter a 4-week Cup run with both the Val Draper Cup and the WithQuiz Plate up for grabs.  The top 4 league teams slug it out next week with the question paper set by TMTCH.

As I said in an earlier Chatterbox the Cup draw has been designed to be more unfavourable the higher up the league your team finished.  So by week 2 of the Cup competition 2 of the top 4 teams in the league table will be discarded.
