Quiz Paper Verdict |
This week's paper was set by The Stockport League (Mike Wagstaffe of the Alexandria to be precise). Both teams were full of praise for his efforts. The paper demonstrated mastery of both the Stockport and the WithQuiz codes of questioning. In the Stockport format Round 1 all but one of the 30 questions were answered correctly ensuring there were no 'not a clue' longeurs. In the second (WithQuiz) half the themes were nicely fashioned so that they were not obvious at the start of the round and yet by questions 3, 4 or 5 each team had an inkling. The idea for the last round was novel and just hit the mark. I predict we will see a few more 'end to end' rounds in our respective leagues next season. Despite all this well earned praise our spectating Historymen (well Ivor, actually) managed to find fault with one of the Eurovision questions (Round 1 - Question 23). Brighton was not the first UK venue for the competition outside London. Apparently it was Edinburgh in 1972. Brighton was, however, the first non- London English venue. In 1972 Vicky Leandros of Luxembourg won in Edinburgh with Aprčs Toi. So there!! |

Next Wednesday the WithQuiz 2010/11 season finally comes to a juddering halt with the Presentation evening at the Albert Club (be there no later than 8.15). There will be the customary pictures and music Albert Club-style team quiz on the evening (run by me) and at the half way point we will dish out the gongs for the season (Kieran has offered to do the honours this year). Partners, friends, etc, will be very welcome. It's been a pretty good season all round with our two new teams adding spice to an already hot mixture - do come along and see it off in style. |
