Chunky and the Bards go through to contest this season's WIST Champions Cup Final

Results & Match Reports

Chunky just got the better of the Smoke Fairies who were down to three (Barry couldn't make it).  John Holden (of Chunky) reports:

Very close all the way through, worthy opponents, and a fine paper (as usual) by Gerry.

Bards were sent reeling at the start of Round 1 as the Opsimaths powered away with a series of 2-pointers.  Then, slowly but surely, the Bards juggernaut got going until victory was in sight.  The whole affair was presided over by QM Eric 'Lazarus' Gow who had the intimidating presence of Jitka and stopwatch on his right hand and the somewhat less intimidating assistant timekeeper Dom on his left.  The cheap seats behind Eric were filled by Historyman Ivor.

Quiz Paper Verdict

This week the paper was set by Gerry Collins on behalf of WithQuiz.  A great paper as far as we were concerned.  Kieran thought it pretty good - but was a bit disgruntled at the 'link' in Round 3 (the first of the WithQuiz style rounds).  I suspect (as in the Bards/Opsimaths game) the Fairies didn't get the link and then reacted to the time they had wasted in looking for it.  There were (of course) plenty of Irish questions on offer.  Why, oh why did I not guess Belfast for the 'town hall looking like Stockport town hall' question?  It had to be!!

The Question of the Week

This week the Bards and the Opsimaths rather liked the Spare Question in Round 6:

Name the 16 year old (circled) looking very much at  home in Nazi Germany attending the 1937 funeral of his sister.

Chatterbox

Next week it's Val Draper Cup time.  Due to mass absence at the Etihad to watch Chelsea slug it out with City on the Wednesday evening the Fairies/Opsimaths match has been delayed until Thursday.  For this reason I'd appreciate it if your 'results' texts/emails late on Wednesday didn't contain anything that gave away any of the answers.  I'll do my normal website update for the other matches late on Wednesday evening/Thursday morning - but of course not put the question paper up on site until Friday.
