The Prodigals lift the WIST A-Trophy in the first year of this new competition

Results & Match Reports

A-Trophy Cup Final - The Result

Albert were defeated by The Prodigals in a tough final played at the Albert Club.  I can't say much about the match for fear of giving any hints to INBTO or Chunky who have to play their WIST Champions final match in a fortnight using the same paper.  As is evident from the aggregate score (74) it was a much more gruelling paper than we've had for WIST Cup evenings so far this season (previous aggregates have been in the 90s).  I'm told the first 2 Stockport-style rounds set by me were stinkers and that the WithQuiz-style quartet of rounds set by Dave Barras were much more to the teams' collective taste.  Mea culpa!  Maybe INBTO and Chunky will think differently.  We'll see.  Anyway in the meantime congratulations to the Prodigals for a good end to the season featuring in two Cup finals and being the first team on the planet to win the A-Trophy (which has still to arrive from Timpson's online, but will be here for presentation by Ivor next Wednesday).

Quiz Paper Verdict

This week the paper was compiled by WithQuiz (Dave Barras and myself to be precise).  However because the same paper is going to be used on May 21st for the WIST Champions final between Chunky and I've Never Been to One it has to remain unpublished for the next fortnight.  So, no review and no Question of the Week until May 21st.  Sorry!

Chatterbox

As a dyed-in-the-wool City supporter I have to make the sad admission that at 8.45pm on Monday evening I was shrieking at the box "Stepney, ALEX STEPNEY!!".  The Record Collectors (a.k.a. Rachael, Adam and Richard of CMR) were appearing on Only Connect and were stuck on the infamous Wall.  Fortunately Richard pressed the 'Stepney' button more in hope than in any knowledge of the United legend and their quartet of England goalkeepers was complete.  They went on to gain full marks on the Wall and win their tie impressively.

Further to Nick Mill's message last week in this space about the summer's Buzzer Quiz he tells me that you can now enrol on the Facebook group called 'Graduate Academic Buzzer Quiz League'.

Next Wednesday we will stage the End of Season Presentation Evening at the Albert Club.  Teams who are in possession of the various trophies from the end of last season please remember to bring them along.  As last year the evening's quiz has been set by Mike Wagstaffe from the Stockport League and he will be there to act as QM.  At the midway point of the evening the review of the season and presentation of the trophies will be hosted by Ivor - so expect a few stats!

See you next week.
