Withington Pub Quiz League - quizbiz 09/09/16

As with last season this, the 39th WithQuiz season, starts with some sad news.......

Richard Seed

Many of you, like myself, knew Richard really well over many years. Well sadly Richard died on September 1st. He'd had cancer for a while but the end came rather rapidly and unexpectedly.

Richard played in our quiz league from the late 1980s through to a couple of years back - first as a member of the Opsimaths (in all their earlier guises) and then as a founding member of the Albert Park team (later to become The Prodigals).

I'm sure you will join me in wishing his wife, Sheila, and son, Ben, our deepest condolences. I have been in touch with Sheila and she would love as many of his friends (quizzers or others) to join her at Southern Cemetery on Tuesday September 13th at 12 noon and afterwards at 11 Didsbury Park to celebrate his life and our friendship with Richard.

WithQuiz39 - The 2016/17 Season

You've all (eventually) replied positively to my invitation to register for the new season and Roddy has now cast the fixture runes - you will find the new season's fixtures up on the Fixtures page.

Key points to note:

Same 11 teams as last season, with the same names, the same home venues and the same captains with the same contact details!

The first League matches take place on Wednesday September 28th with The Prodigals sitting out to set our first paper of the season

A pre-season friendly match between representative teams from Stockport and WithQuiz will take place at The Albert Club on Wednesday September 21st starting at 8.30 pm (please let me know if you're turning up and would like to play for the WithQuiz team).

Finally it's worth reminding ourselves of the discussions we had at the end of last season about tightening up our match protocols so that we avoid very late finishes and tedious quizzes that drag on forever. To get the gist of what was agreed click here.

All-time WIST Table

Rather as I did last season for the WithQuiz league table over the years (remember The History Men as 'The Second Best WithQuiz team of all-time'), Mike Wagstaffe has compiled a table of performance in the WIST competitions (Champions League and A-Trophy) over the years we have been competing (2007-2016). Performance in the A-Trophy has been rated at half the level of the Champions League. Here's his table.....
