The WithQuiz league regains the WIST Challenge Trophy from the Stockport league

Stockport league v WithQuiz league

A comfortable 15 points victory for the WithQuiz league reversing last season's win by Stockport.

Mike B reports

A very friendly friendly yet again.  It was good to see our mates from Stockport as well as catching up with fellow WithQuizzers following the summer break.

There were (I think) 9 WithQuizzers at the Albert Club so, with 6-a-side, we made sure everyone got a game by use of half time substitutions.  Nick captained the home team and was on sparkling form, marshalling the conferences to successful answers more often than not.

The home side had chalked up a 6-point lead by the end of Round One on the Stockport-style '30 question' round and they never looked back.  The final score was pretty close to being a reversal of last season when the same 111 point aggregate split 60-51 in Stockport's favour.  This time it was 63-48 to WithQuiz.

As last year Mike Wagstaffe and myself shared the setting duties  using the TV screen in the Club's back lounge to display plenty of entertaining pictures to illustrate the questions and provide the grids which gave the question choices for competitors (Mike W used the 'bingo' format for all the four WithQuiz-style rounds he set).

Captain Barry congratulates Captain Nick on the WithQuiz victory

Sadly the WIST Challenge trophy for which we were competing has been lost somewhere in Stockport during the last year and so at the end of the evening we had to make do with a handshake between the two captains (Nick Mills and Barry Atkinson) rather than the usual presentation of a cup.

Off and running next Wednesday with The Electric Pigs setting for the first round of this season's league matches.

Albert players please note that the Shrimps are playing their home matches from now on at The Woodstock so don't head off down to The Turnpike.

I hope you're all appreciating the new style website.  I have now got to the point where the pages left to port into the new look are the hundreds of past QuizBiz articles and past Question papers.  This will take a while to do but in the meantime all this material can be reached in the usual way from past seasons' Fixture lists to be found in the WQ Archive section.

I've heard from a number of people that the new format for the Question papers is much more user-friendly than the old style.  If you haven't tried it yet have a look at this week's paper and judge for yourselves.

As ever any feedback would be most welcome.

Average aggregate 111.0

I'll wait to see what comments (if any) I receive - but my judgement was that the standard of questions was just about right; and with the use of the screen to display relevant and (occasionally) entertaining pictures most seemed happy with the evening's fare.

Question of the Week

...nominated by Mike Bath...

goes to Mike Wagstaffe's Come Together question in the round based on Beatles song titles (Round 6 Question 4) which gave us all the opportunity to chortle at the wonderful accompanying picture:

In which city did Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un hold their summit in June?
