A really warm and friendly reunion of WithQuiz mates - remembering the past, celebrating the 2019/20 winners and looking forward to the future 2021/22 season

End of Season Friendly Quiz

Winners: Ethel Rodin

Runners Up: Electric Pigs

& History Men

Roddy gets his hands on the Big One at last - but Anne-Marie is only lending it out

Ethel Rodin enjoyed a double triumph by winning the evening's table quiz as well as picking up the cherished WithQuiz League Shield for the very first time.  They had weathered an extraordinarily lengthy season (we all know why it lasted so long) and had come out on top despite the efforts of the chasing pack led by last season's champions The Prodigals and the valiant Shrimps.

Anne-Marie awarded the trophy to a beaming Roddy and the rest of the room rejoiced to see a new name on the Shield.

Anne-Marie also awarded the WIST Challenge Cup to Ivor for the WithQuiz pre-season victory over the Stockport League back in September 2019.

Howell kindly acted as WithQuiz snapper-in-chief and his gallery of photos of the evening can be viewed here

In the evening's quiz the Electric Pigs and The History Men tied for second place behind Ethel on a paper set by The Prodigals.  To view the paper click here.

As is the tradition on these occasions the teams present were invited to select their 'Question of the Season' from the 25 'Questions of the Week' selected throughout the season.  As the table below shows, Gerry Collins won the award for his 'MacBean' question set in the very last paper of the season.  Gerry is currently on holiday (in Ireland I think) so Damian collected the Dave Barras shield on his behalf.

Finally a segment of the evening was given over to memories of our lost friends: Jitka, Tim and Dave Rainford.  Brian, Ivor and Anne-Marie spoke movingly, and spontaneous and heartfelt applause greeted the recollections.

Gone but certainly not forgotten

Oh, and really finally I was most chuffed to earn tributes and a 'Lifetime WithQuiz Achievement Award' from you all, presented with some warm words by John Dennison.

Thank you one and all - but, since the award was a  bottle of Jura whisky, there's a fair chance it won't last the lifetime intended.  Cheers, and on to next week when we kick off the 2021/2022 season with a paper by The Opsimaths.
