WithQuiz League v Stockport League

Stockport win back the WIST trophy

Webmaster and setter, Mike, was QM for the evening and reports back...

It was a steady progression for the Stockport team as they pulled ahead in Round 1 and (with a few exceptions) continued in that direction.  At the close there were 21 points between the two teams.

Plenty of WithQuiz substitutions at half time, but that didn't halt Stockport's onward march.

In this page's headline panel you can see the WithQuiz captain for the evening, Kieran, presenting the trophy to Stockport's Mike Wagstaffe.

Most of all it was good to get together again on a Wednesday evening, meet some old friends and exercise our quizzing noddles.

Well done and well deserved Stockport!

Average Aggregate score 141.0

The aggregate score was comparable to the usual scores for this type of paper - but then there was an extra round (Round 3) to swell the coffers.  My impression from the QM chair was that there were quite a few teasers that stirred the imagination of the teams and that overall the quiz worked well.  Perhaps this wouldn't have been the overwhelming view of the WithQuiz team when it came to the picture round (Round 6) and the brand name letters where they struggled big time.

Round 3 was an extra Stockport-style written round along the lines of the Tenable TV quiz show format (i.e. a list of 10 answers that fit the criteria set by a single question).  This time the question concerned the first 10 countries in the world, in alphabetical sequence, that ended with the letter 'N'.  I think this type of question particularly suits the Stockport written round format - might they adopt it now and again for their regular league match papers?

Question of the Week

This week my vote goes to the 'Blockbuster Bingo' Round 4 Question labelled 'NTT'.  The WithQuiz mob sighed and frowned for a good 30 seconds until Kieran's face lit up with a broad 'penny-drop' smile.  Here's the 'NTT' clue ...

The name of a hospitality suite in East Manchester.

...and also

Next week we're off and running with our WithQuiz league programme.  KFD set and the rest of us compete.

There have been a few enquiries about joining the league during the summer and hopefully this will translate into a few new faces on Wednesday evenings.

Welcome to all newcomers - we hope you enjoy our peculiar brand of quizzing.
