Done and dusted.  Another season put to bed.

Last night we all enjoyed an excellent end of season hurrah at the Albert Club.  Gerry Hennessy and Andrew Simcock organised the evening's quiz (9 snappy themed rounds of typical Hennessy fare).  Speeches were made and cups, plates and shields presented.  We can all retire to our French villas content that the winter has been well and truly buried.

The winners of the evening's quiz were (inevitably, this year) Fifth Finger.  Well done to them.

The awards and honourable mentions for the season are best summed up by the following sheet which was handed out (you can click on the links to get more information about each honour):

During the half time break reps from each team had a brief discussion on the general Withquiz modus operandi.  The following points were agreed:

  • We should start next season in mid September (rather than the traditional mid/late October) with a view to finishing earlier in 2005

  • The Cup & Plate should be somewhat simpler next year using a more conventional knockout system (i.e. first round cup knockout qualifies you for the Plate - otherwise lose and it's curtains - unless you're required to make up numbers in the next round as highest scoring losers)

  • When a paper has a picture round 2 sets of pictures should be provided so that both teams can be looking at the pictures concurrently (thus saving a bit of time)

  • Teams should observe the etiquette on conferring more rigorously than often the case at present (i.e. only finger/hand indications of degree of certainty - no written or spoken communication - until the questionee indicates a wish to confer)

  • The Wednesday/Thursday debate should be resolved by each team sending a single vote to the website (i.e. via the 'Contact Me' page) by 31/08/04

  • If possible (and people tell me) I will indicate against each fixture on the website which team went first (probably with an asterisk) - I'll also try and narrow the pages to suit A4 printing

  • New teams are very welcome - we hope the Rank Outsiders (who joined us for the evening) can become regular players next season - and all are asked to look out for other potential joiners

Have a good summer - see you in September but afore ye go here's a last word from Fr M:

More lasting than Bronze

A Chairde,

I know it's all over for another season barring hangovers but just to let you know that Fr. Megson is still waxing lyrically and gibbously over the moon about achieving his lifetime ambition of becoming a clue in a Dummy crossword.  Eat your heart out Finger V - the better priest won.  Better luck next year.  "Dissolute Spiritual Leader Of Our Quiz Community" is, to Fr. Megson's way of thinking, a far more impressive epitaph than "He/She Knew 64 Things And A Couple Of Spares".  Thanks again Dummy.

Slan til next season,

Fr. Megson

PS. Almost forgot, what does dissolute mean?
