Another stonking victory for
Stockport as they lift the WIST trophy for the 4th year running -
QotW took us back to memories of the 1966 World Cup final at the old
Wembley
Charas top the table after our
first round of league matches; joy for all the home teams and
defeat for last season's champs
Sad news to kick off this week:
we've just learnt of the death of Clive Berry, long-time WithQuizzer
and former captain of the Prodigals team (see obituary below) - The Charas stay top alongside
the Bards, both of whom have enjoyed back-to-back victories - QotW
connects Cornish inventors and Lake poets
After 3 rounds of the league Albert are the
only unbeaten team; the Prods hit the top with a decisive win over
last week's table toppers, the Charas - QotW celebrates an acting
dynasty with an 81-year Oscar gap
Four teams at the top on 6
points with The Prods keeping their noses in front on 'goal
difference'; Albert however remain the only
team with a 100% record - QotW linked Sibelius and the Nile 
The Prods stay top even though
Albert remain the only team with a 100% record; the Opsis creep off
the bottom with their first win of the season - QotW connects
Australian gold and North American monsters
The Prods nick Albert's 100%
record to consolidate their position at the top; the Bards and the
Opsis fight to a standstill with the season's first tied match -
QotW concerns a Liverpool footballer who didn't seem to know whether
he was coming or going
The Prods keep on going with
this season's record score of 50 points; CKC notch up their first
league points of the season at the Albert Club; the Bards set a
points-fest of a quiz - QotW melds Liverpool strikers and a touch of
Malagasy place-names
A couple from each side of the
Mersey win through to the semis: The Alexandra and Smart Alex - and
Albert and CKC - QotW links a local band from the 1990s and actor
Brian Jackson - the draw for the WIST semis pairs the 2 Stockport
teams against each other and likewise the 2 surviving WithQuiz teams
High-scoring
tie between the Prods and CKC leaves them respectively top and
bottom; elsewhere second-placed Albert miss a trick against the
History Men and the Opsis and Charas notch up much needed wins -
QotW about a PM who holds most politicians in contempt - a top
quality paper from the Pigs - and Barry finally departs for
retirement in East Anglia
History Men leapfrog the Pigs
to join Albert on 10 points; CKC continue their comeback
relinquishing the foot of the table to the luckless Opsis - QotW
links standard WithQuiz moans with the 1977 manager of a Virgin
Records store in Nottingham - a farewell thanks from veteran

In a 'points-fest' evening the
Prods/Albert match clocks up a record-breaking 100 point aggregate;
History Men leapfrog Albert into second place; CKC and Ethel move up

Bee team to the semi-final stage and ex-Shrimp James's team reaching

Results go according to
positions in the table with the CKC tie with Ethel being the only
close result on an evening when overall scores were well down on the
average - QotW asks about the first truly 20th century PM
CKC nip up above Ethel in the
table while the History Men edge closer to Albert in the tussle for
the 'Runner Up' spot - QotW about a chap whose obituary killed him -
Bard John Hegarty is about to be Chased - Val Draper Cup draw takes
place
CKC move up to fourth
challenging Albert and the History Men for the runners up slot; down
at the foot the Opsimaths record the evening's top score with a win
over the Charas - QotW celebrates some famous Freemen of the City of
Manchester
